Thursday's In Black

Wear black on Thursdays. Wear a pin to declare you resist attitudes and practices that permit rape and violence. Show your respect for women who are resilient in the face of injustice and violence. Encourage other staff members to join you. Under the theme 16 Days of Activism: From Awareness to Accountability, employees of the Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform are encouraged to wear black every Thursday from, 25 November 2021, until 10 December 2021.

This is done as part of our responsibility to speak out against violence and to ensure that women, men, girls and boys are safe from violence in homes, schools, work and all places in our society. President Ramaphosa announced that the government is implementing the Emergency Response Action Plan on Gender Based Violence and Femicide as a result of the alarming rate at which it occurs in the country.
