Almost a year ago, the Department welcomed six newly qualified veterinarians that were selected and stationed across the province as interns through the Compulsory Community Service (CCS) programme.
During that year they were tasked with focusing on disease prevention, rendering ambulatory services and providing education especially in regard to responsible pet ownership, resource utilization and optimizing livestock production. This week, they met with their unit supervisors- Dr. Modupe Letsie and Mr. Deon Kriel, Acting COO- Mr. Thabang Sibhono as well as the head of Human Resource Management, Ms. Kehilwe Moremi to bid farewell to and take stock of the time that they spent within the province and the Department.
Mr. Sibhono, on behalf of MEC Manopole and the Department, wished the Doctors (Aninca Jordaan and Anja Uys stationed in Seodin, Odette Burger and Marzelle Fourie from the Kimberley clinic, Pieter Botes based in Prieska and Marinette Bothma from the Upington office) well on their journey and thanked them for the impeccable services delivered to the province. The Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform, through the CCS programme wishes to give the next batch of intern veterinarians the opportunity to provide their much needed services to rural areas whilst gaining valuable experience and knowledge.
This week’s send-off allows the Department to measure the positives and negatives of the past year and reflect on the necessary support that should be given to the future intakes to ensure that the animals of the province continue to receive the best possible care.
