The Department held a Career Awareness on scarce Skills in the Vaalharts Research Station in Jan Kemp Dorp. About 52 grade 10 &11 learners from Tselaathuto Secondary School from Itireleng village near Pampierstad were spoiled on various career choices. Departmental officials specializing in scarce skills encouraged learners to work hard to achieve their dreams. A pool of career expertise in various scarce skills fields where on display where learners were mesmerized on Agricultural Career choices they can choose from.
Topics such as;
1 What different scientist are busy doing at the Vaalharts Research Stations?
2 Introduction to animal production focusing on various breed, traits to look for in breads, daily animal observation, dihorning, castration,
dipping, inoculations and dousing just to mention few.
3 Role of engineering in Agriculture.
4 Introduction to crop production focusing on Lucern production, bailing production and machine utilization in the field.
Learners welcomed the day with opened hands as they were given a platform to pose questions ranging from subject choices, the role of Agronomist in the Department Anthropologist, plant pathologist, crop specialist, and soil scientists. How do the above intertwined to form a good combination? Those were some of the questions learners posed to officials to the enchantment of their educators. Meanwhile Tselaathuto Secondary School's Agricultural Educator Mr Tebogo Jacob emphasised the importance of such days as learners get to learn the practical part of their subject matter. 'Practicals assist learners to grasp what they have learn theoretically easy and also various Agricultural Equipments used to achieve the end results'. He concluded.
