It was all hands on deck when the Department celebrated World Wetlands Day in Richie outside Kimberley in the Sol Plaatjie Local Municipality. The awareness seeks to stress the importance of wetlands and the need for its conservation and how to preserve it for our future generations.
The Day is was celebrated under the theme “Protecting Wetlands For Our Common Future”.
Wetlands play a crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems and providing essential services. The Department launched the day’s activities where officials and some EPWP workers rolled-up their sleeves collecting bottles and papers near the Orange River.
They, then marched to the river, holding awareness placards bearing messages such as “Save Our River” and “Keep rivers Clean”. The procession continued to the Richie and N12 four-way intersection, where the department showcased their awareness boards to passing motorists, raising awareness about the importance of protecting the river and its surrounding #HOOT4WETLANDS
The event concluded at the intersection making a successful World Wetlands in small town of Ritchie encouraging community members to work together in order protect and conserve wetlands. As the main goal is ensure the long-term sustainability. Let’s strive to keep our Rivers Clean!!!
