The Department recently held a week-long veld management training in Douglas for local livestock farmers. The training aimed to enhance farmers' knowledge in veld management and farm planning, covering topics such as grazing capacity, stocking rates, invasive species, bush encroachment, and conservation agriculture.
Departmental Extension Practitioners Ms. Portia Mphore and Mr. Cedric Visser provided both theory and practical insights on implementing effective management principles to balance productivity and responsible land use. By gaining these skills, 11 attending farmers can make informed decisions that enhance profitability while safeguarding the long-term health of their livestock, soil, and vegetation. The training ultimately aims to help farmers farm more sustainably and effectively.
