Ms. Nadia Uys and Mr. Alwyn Krause attended a Tuli Farmers' Day. The topics discussed included herd health, biosecurity, intruder and forest control, Yara products, as well as Tuli history and characteristics. The event was held at Donkerhoek Farm, owned by Mr. B. Raath. They assisted with biosecurity measures at the entrance by disinfecting vehicles, collecting contact details, and disinfecting the shoes of farmers to prevent the possible spread of Foot and Mouth Disease. Some farmers in attendance were from the Free State and Eastern Cape.
A major focus of the event was the Tuli Growth Initiative (TGI), which aims to provide emerging farmers with access to funding for infrastructure investments and herd expansion, along with training and skills development to enhance success in Tuli beef production. The initiative supports the development of profitable breeding herds of at least 100 purebred Tuli cows and bulls, improves production facilities, and builds farmer capacity through skills training and mentorship over a five-year period. Additionally, the project seeks to incubate and mentor emerging farmers who have the potential to become successful commercial producers and marketers of the Tuli cattle breed.
