MEC MANOPOLE ENCOURAGES LEARNERS TO KEEP THEIR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN

09 March 2021

As part of the back to school campaign, MEC Mase Manopole visited Tshireleco Senior Secondary School in Kimberley today.

MEC Manopole donated school tracksuits to the 2021 matric class, sanitary towels and laboratory equipments.

The school was adopted by the department last year, and so far, it has been assisted with the trimming of grass as well as awareness creation on environmental management and greening of the school.

Speaking to the learners, MEC Manopole, emphasised the importance of keeping our schools and environment clean. She further encouraged the learners to be environmentally conscious and ensure that their community is free of litter.

"Charity begins at home. If we are able to keep our homes and surroundings clean, then it will be easier for us to keep our school clean. We need to take charge of our environment,"said MEC Manopole.

The MEC said the school will be assistance with the establishment of a food garden. The food garden will assist in the school nutrition program by providing fresh vegetables.

"The eco-school program is another initiative which the school will benefit from. Precisely because the programme is aimed at creating awareness and action around environmental sustainability in schools and their surrounding communities, as well as supporting education for sustainable development in our school curriculum. We will be assisting the school to enrol in the program so that they get benefit from it," said MEC Manopole.

MEC Mase Manopole called on the School Governing Body to work hard in preserving the legacy of the school.

"The school has produced a lot of great community builders and respected leaders in our society, who have contributed immensely in shaping the future of our country and in particular our Province. We hope the little we have contributed will go a long way in shaping the future of our learners who will be leading this country in the near future," she said.
